Before

The steep slope and compacted clay soil made it difficult for grass to take root in this area, leading to runoff and erosion with every rainfall—worsened by stormwater coming from both the front and back downspouts. The homeowner faced challenges using the yard due to the uneven grade, lack of privacy, and the absence of a designated outdoor seating area.

After

Considering the site's challenges, we transformed the sloped lawn into a beautifully terraced garden filled with native perennials and herbs. The homeowner envisioned a natural stone patio that seamlessly transitions into a walkway, connecting to the driveway for added accessibility. To enhance functionality and enjoyment, we created a cozy seating area that can be utilized in the future for a small bistro table and chairs, offering a perfect spot to admire the vibrant flowers and the pollinators they attract. Additionally, all downspouts were buried and connected to underground drainage, directing stormwater to a lower elevation where it is safely released onto the grass.
